Tyler Mercer joined the San Antonio office of Lubel Voyles as a partner in 2014. His practice encompasses a variety of business litigation, personal injury and other civil litigation matters as well as advising on other commercial matters. He currently focuses on storm damage claims, helping his clients protest property tax values and helping those impacted for the BP oil spill file their claims.

Prior to joining Lubel Voyles, Tyler practiced at Valero Energy Corporation and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP in San Antonio, Texas. At Valero, Tyler was responsible for managing Valero's toxic tort docket (asbestos, benzene, and silica) and overseeing all phases of that litigation nationwide. Tyler also handled other types of personal injury claims as well as matters involving project disputes. Tyler later took on a role advising Valero on a wide variety of commercial agreements and other legal matters as assigned. At Akin Gump, his practice focused on business and commercial law, products liability, insurance and securities, and class action defense. His representative cases while at Akin Gump included cases involving allegations of fraudulent practices in the insurance industry, products liability cases relating to dietary supplements, and allegations of false advertising in the pharmaceutical industry.

Tyler received his B.A. magna cum laude in history from Southwestern University in 1993 and his M.P.A. in 1996 from Texas Tech University. He received his J.D. cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1996, after which he clerked for the Honorable H.F. "Hippo" Garcia of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. Tyler is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and the San Antonio Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Southern Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Tyler has also been certified as a mediator by Mediation Training Institute International. Texas Super Lawyers (a Thomson-Reuters business) has recognized him as a "Rising Star" from 2005 -2009 as published in Texas Monthly Magazine and Scene in S.A. Magazine (Open Sky Media) named him one of "S.A. Lawyers: Best of 2011." He has been a speaker at several national seminars.
